Work/Case StudiesCASE STUDY: PDFYArchitecture & Privacyschedule6 min read

Re-architecting the mobile document utility for privacy and zero cloud friction.

Everyday mobile users were stranded between two extremes: heavyweight enterprise suites requiring cloud logins and subscriptions, and ad-riddled utilities that harvested document data. We set out to prove that advanced PDF operations could run completely within native device memory at instant speeds.

Zero-Copy Memory Model

Native Client Silicon Pipeline

Unlike hybrid webview wrappers that clone byte buffers into JavaScript runtimes, our architecture bypasses IPC serialization through zero-copy memory mapping directly on device registers.

memory

Zero-Copy Memory Pipelines

Documents are processed directly in device RAM without writing intermediate unencrypted temporary files to storage, safeguarding user records against forensic recovery.

Hardware-Accelerated OCR

Leverages Apple Neural Engine and Android Neural Networks API to parse typography and layout geometry on-device at 60fps.

Deterministic Vector Compactor

Analyzes font embedding tables and image streams to discard duplicate metadata blocks without degrading human readability.

The Market Contradiction
“Why did manipulating a 3-page PDF on mobile suddenly require an account login, a recurring subscription, and an upload to an unknown remote server?”

Existing mobile utilities take a simple operation — like merging two tax forms or compressing a scanned receipt — and force it through remote cloud queues. This introduces high latency, demands an active internet connection, and exposes private medical, financial, and legal records to remote data breaches.

01

Cloud-first latency: uploading large multi-page scans over weak cellular connections causes frequent timeouts.

02

Privacy compromises: unencrypted third-party document processing leaves sensitive files exposed.

03

Subscription bloat: casual mobile users are asked for $15/month for basic vector rasterization.

Discipline & Reduction

What we deliberately chose not to build.

A studio is defined just as much by what it refuses to ship as by what it creates.

✕

No User Accounts or Passwords

You never need to log in, verify an email, or connect a Google account to use PDFy. The app opens directly to the work canvas.

✕

No Cloud Document Sync Locker

We chose not to operate cloud storage. Your files remain in your operating system's native Files or Drive apps under your control.

✕

No Advertising SDKs

Zero third-party tracking libraries or advertising networks are bundled into the binary, keeping the installation under 25MB.
